Moon Rabbits is a digital illustration based on the Korean folktale of the rabbit who lives on the moon. It is said that a rabbit becomes the guardian of the moon after sacrificing himself to the emperor of the heavens. Now the Moon Rabbit can be seen making rice cakes using his mortar and pestle.

In this illustration, I reimagine the legend within a Korean diasporic context. Two rabbits run under the full moon in the middle of a Midwest winter, snow covering the ground and a bare birch keeping the bunnies company.

Moon Rabbits has been adapted and published with Springboard for the Arts for their January 2021 mailer.
