Lucky Rabbit (2023) is a gouache painting on Bristol paper made in celebration of the Year of the Rabbit. It is a contemporary take on Korean folk art 민화 (minhwa), meaning “people’s painting” or “popular painting”. The rabbit — missing one of its back feet — jumps through the clouds and over whimsical hills, framed by clouds and the moon.

Popular in the 19th and 20th centuries, 민화 minhwa was painted by working class Korean artists to bless their homes, engage in humor, and to keep out bad spirits.

This illustration is available as a poster and greeting card. The original painting has been sold.
