Dragons Against Dictators (2024) is the third installment of an illustrated series of abolitionist animals — or in this case, fantasy creatures. This series combines popular animals with politically charged, alliterated slogans.

This gouache painting was made in solidarity with Myanmar’s resistance against the military junta. On February 1, 2021, the Myanmar military staged a coup before democratically elected officials swore into duty. Civilians and revolutionary fighters have been combatting the dictatorship since.

Dragons Against Dictators was made with support from July, an accounting student who speaks out daily against the military regime. The dragons reference dragon statues found throughout Myanmar.

This illustration will be printed and distributed by Golden Land Solidarity Collective (Chiang Mai, Thailand) to raise funds for non-violent, women-led efforts in Myanmar.
