In Deerfox Minhwa (2020), I used gouache paints to emulate the artistic style of Korean folk art 민화 (minhwa). The Deerfox character emerged from a vision I had when I was engaging in art for play. He embodies silliness, creativity, and trickster energy.

Popular in the 19th and 20th centuries, 민화 minhwa was painted by working class Korean artists to bless their homes, engage in humor, and to keep out bad spirits.

Deerfox Minhwa was the title image of my solo show Home Keeping/Keeping Home (2020-2021) held at Keefer Court in Minneapolis, MN.
