I was commissioned by Anne Winkler-Morey to create simple line drawings of her bike and its travails during Anne’s 420-day biking expedition around the perimeter of the United States. These bikes are published alongside Anne’s (mis)adventures, conversations and findings in her memoir, Allegiance to Winds and Waters (2022), told from the viewpoint of a historian-social activist.

The bike illustrations serve as page breaks throughout the novel while supporting the story. In this sample selection, we have Anne’s bike fiercely pedaling forward; the bike wearing a makeshift sail fashioned out of a hoop skirt; and finally the bike with a flat tire. In total, I created 8 illustrations for this project.

If you’d like your own copy of the book, you may purchase one from AnneWinklerMorey.com.

Tori was a delight to work with. She was able to translate the emotions I described into a small line drawing, creating something that greatly enhances the story and provides eye relief for the reader. On the business side, all work was done in a timely manner, with clear expectations. If you are looking for an artistic collaborator, I highly recommend NTXOO Art.
